JTEKT Machinery Introduces Bridge Mill Series with Expanded Capabilities

Oct 08, 2012

At IMTS 2012, JTEKT Machinery Americas Corporation introduced its expanded line of bridge mills for 5-face machining with extended Y-axis travel.

“The extended Y-axis travel allows customers to machine a wider array of workpieces, while m-spec, the 5-face machining option, gives shops the ability to reduce the number of setups needed for a given part,” said JTEKT Machinery's Director of Sales VMC Product Manager Randy Ragnini.

At IMTS, JTEKT Machinery showcased this machine’s m-spec capabilities via a demonstration hogging 5 sides of a tombstone. Among the series’ 2,300 mm (90.5”) Y-axis travel and automatic head changer with 5-degree indexing on the head, the SB-YM has an automatic tool changer in the horizontal and vertical spindle orientations.

The SB-YM’s powerful 461 ft/lbs. of spindle torque is backed by a column and crossrail from the same Meehanite casting. Robust linear guideways provide speed for heavy cutting, while a unique counterbalance system for the headstock maintains tight tolerances.

As with all of JTEKT Machinery's bridge mills, the SB-YM offers a full-enclosure option. For more information on the SB216YM, SB316YM, and SB416YM, visit www.jtektmachinery.com.
