GS Series Cutting2

Precision-Crafted Gear Skiving Spindle

At the core of the GS Series lies JTEKT’s original #50 taper, high-power spindle — a powerhouse engineered to perform both high-speed cutting and heavy-duty skiving with unmatched precision. The high-rigidity design, combined with JTEKT’s advanced synchronous control system, ensures smooth operation under load, delivering exceptional part quality and consistency across demanding production cycles.

Key Features:

  • #50 taper high-rigidity spindle for large-size gear skiving and heavy-duty cutting.
  • Maximum speed of 6,000 min⁻¹ delivering both power and speed for diverse gear types.
  • High-torque output (up to 30 kW short-time / 25 kW continuous) for reliable heavy cutting performance.
  • Integrated multi-process capability — supports turning, milling, drilling, and gear skiving in one setup.

Cutting Performance & Skiving Accuracy

The GS Series redefines gear manufacturing by integrating high-speed skiving, turning, and milling into one highly capable platform. JTEKT’s advanced synchronous control system allows precise coordination between the tool and workpiece spindles, achieving accurate phase matching even at high cutting speeds. This innovation ensures consistent tooth profiles, minimal pitch errors, and exceptional surface finishes — all while dramatically reducing machining cycle time compared to traditional shaping or hobbing.

The high-rigidity structure and trunnion-type rotary table, allow the machine to maintain stability during heavy chip loads and high-speed skiving operations. Its real-time synchronization between the C-axis and spindle rotation provides perfect meshing of cutting tool and gear teeth — a critical factor for fine pitch gears and complex tooth geometries. This level of precision, validated through JTEKT’s extensive field testing, allows manufacturers to produce high-quality gears with pitch accuracy under 8 µm and excellent surface uniformity.

GS Series Inside

Proprietary Machine Design & Structure

The GS Series is engineered on a high-rigidity, FEM-optimized cast iron foundation designed to deliver exceptional structural stability and long-term accuracy. Its robust base and column construction ensure outstanding vibration damping and resistance to deflection during heavy-duty machining. The symmetrical, box-type column minimizes thermal displacement, maintaining precise alignment between spindle and workpiece even under high-load conditions. With wide guideway spacing and roller-type linear guides, the GS Series achieves superior stiffness and smooth axis motion—crucial for maintaining machining precision in continuous gear skiving operations.

At the heart of its structure is a trunnion-type rotary table that provides powerful torque transmission and stable support for large-diameter components. This design enables high cutting loads and precise rotary motion with minimal distortion. Combined with thermal compensation systems and coolant circulation channels integrated into key casting areas, the GS Series maintains consistent dimensional accuracy during extended production cycles.
